Franklin County Schools Gulf Coast Community College Keep Me Informed!

Welcome to my Web site!

It is my hope that this site will provide you with information about our schools and my campaign that you will find useful. There will be regular updates and links to assist you in learning more about our educational system. I also invite you to attend our regular school board workshops and meetings held on the first Thursday after the first Monday each month in the school board meeting room located in the West Campus building. The workshops begin at 5 and the meetings at 6. After our minutes have been approved they appear on the Franklin County Schools.org web site.

Communication. Communication. Communication. This is what must improve in our community. It is sometimes difficult to know the best means of communication. There are many options and folks in our county use many different forms to gain information. "Word of mouth" seems to be one of the favorites. It also means that sometimes inaccurate information goes forth as truth. Rumors often become fact without basis.

I believe we are in "Forward Motion" in the Franklin County Schools. Frankly, forward motion is often too slow for my liking. There is rarely a decision made by our Board that has an easy answer or fix. Being a Board Member has broadened by knowledge of how many nuances there may be to a concern or issue. Ultimately, a decision must be made and sometimes that means someone is not satisfied. This should not preclude working together nor should it preclude finding acceptable solutions if the decision made needs to be revisited. The School Board has also taught me the value of working together and the need to compromise to accomplish a common goal. There are often different means to get to the same end.

The job of high school principal honed my skills at developing a successful team working together and continued to perfect my ability to act decisively and to prioritize actions. I successfully hired employees, evaluated them and dismissed them when necessary. I separated the High School from the Middle School, physically, for the first time.

I believe that I am the only candidate that has the complete skill set, credentials and passion to be the next Superintendent. I will listen and make decisions. If we disagree, you will know why and I will hold your concern with respect. If new information or circumstances cause me to alter a decision, that too, will be open and your opinion accepted.

I will ask that I be evaluated as any CEO would be evaluated and not just every four years. On a regular basis, I will ask for feedback, both formally and informally, on how I am serving in my capacity as the servant of the people. The parents, teachers, community, district staff and board will be involved in my evaluation as the leader of the system.

I will hold regular informal sessions open to the community, perhaps something along the lines of "Coffee with The Superintendent", and will encourage the Principal to do the same with parents and the community-at-large. It will be time well spent with our citizens.

Expectations will be clear from top to bottom. There is no entitlement to our jobs. We will earn them every day. Our customers are our students and we cannot fail them. As a successful businesswoman, I know that my customers have choices and I must serve them or lose them. We must be vigilant in our pursuit of every means available to assist our teachers in reaching each and every student where they are.

I have proven my desire to serve. I have had choices, too. I choose to be involved in education. I will be giving up my job as an insurance agent to serve as Superintendent. I will serve as a school board member until my term expires in November.

Thank you for your support and interest in my campaign. My door is always open to discuss the work ahead. I invite you to join me in the challenge to take our system to a new level of excellence.

At this time, your first opportunity to vote for me will be November when I will face the winner of the Democratic primary and a candidate with No Party Affiliation. There will be no run-off. The top vote getter will be your Superintendent. I hope that you will give me that mandate.

Please check this web site often for updates and information in the coming months.
Thank you.
